Steampunk Gun - Alter toy for Finnabair

Hello Sweeties,

Today I'm on Finnabair's blog for the monthly Brand Ambassador theme. This month we have to alter a toy. I chose a water gun.

First, I covered the water gun with Soft Matte gel to have a first layer. Then, I primed the plastic water gun with Black Heavy Gesso twice.

I selected some cogs from different moulds. I used Heavy Body Gel to glue them. I primed the cogs with Black Heavy Gesso.

I colored the cogs and some parts of the water gun with Green and Blue Patina waxes. When they were dry, I rubbed some Aged Brass wax.

For other parts, I used Black Gold and Celestial waxes.

Mixed media book cover - Finnabair Brand Ambassador

Hello Sweeties,

Today I have a book cover to share with you. Have you ever observed how nature quickly takes over when you let it happen? Have you ever come across an old building, an abandoned car filled with plants and flowers. It’s what I try to reproduce here.

First, I added a design with graphite paste which I partially covered with white crackle paste. When dry, I painted with black gesso.

I used metallic flakes to cover the resin gears with the help of gilding glue and painted all the metallic elements with black gesso.

When I was happy with my composition, I brought back all the details with white gesso. Then I added the colors with liquid acrylic and metallic paints.

I used antiquing wax to tone down the metallic flakes and metallic waxes to highlight all the details.

To finish, I added Golden Dragon and Magic Potion Unicorn pastes.

I hope you will like the video:

The Dragonfly's Secret - Mixed media box for Dusty Attic

Hello Sweeties,

Today, I'm up on Dusty Attic blog with a new mixed media project: an altered cigar box.

First I primed the box with black gesso. I cut a piece of the "Underground Network", which will be the base of the composition. Next, I added some floral resin elements, I continued with "Jumbo Cogs" and "Cogs #1". I added some "Wildflower #6", "Foliage #13", and "Flowers Posies". I finished the composition with a resin dragonfly.

When I was happy with my composition, I painted everything with black gesso. I made sure everything was perfectly dry and nothing was moving. I dry-brushed everything with Linen paint and dried it again.

I continued with liquid acrylic paints in crimson, purple, and nude. And I dried again before dry brushing Jade Impasto. I dried everything again.

I continued with Lime Green and Carmin liquid acrylic paints and dried them again. As the background is black, even with very bright colors, the whole composition is still very dark.

For the next step, I added some metallic accents with waxes. They will help to reveal all the details not only of the resin elements but of the chipboards as well.

To finish, I added some glitter and Golden Dragon paste.

Altered brush for Dusty Attic DT

Hello Sweeties,

Today I'm up on Dusty Attic blog with an altered paintbrush.

I primed the brush with black gesso after I have glued a piece of lace on the handle.

For once, I decided to start the composition from "bottom" to top and to paint the elements layer by layer with black gesso. The Dusty Attic chipboards are not too fragile, but you need to be careful nonetheless with elements like the Wildflower #3 or the Branches #4.

So, the second layer was the wings, the  Tropical Leaves #9, and the Layered Flourish. To know where I will place them, I checked with the biggest elements. In this case the ATC Frame #6.  Again, I primed all the chipboards with the black gesso. Next, I add the frame and the Fancy Accents #2. I finished the composition with the Tropical Leaves #9 and the flowers from the Boho Skull.

When everything was black, I colored all the elements with the Old Silver wax. I used the Electric Violet and Heather Hills waxes to color the flowers from the Wildflowers, the Old Denim for the Fancy Accents #2. For the wings, I used Violet liquid acrylic.

I covered the edges of the ATC frame with silver metallic flakes and the bird skull with gold metallic flakes. I painted the base of the frame and the inside of the eyes of the skull with the Sparkling Onyx Jewel paste.

To finish the brush, I added a few flowers and glitters.
